Great News! Cabin in the Woods' Drew Goddard is rewriting the World War Z ending [World War Z]:
Here's a little bit of good news Brad Pitt is no longer the only talented member on the World War Z movie team. Cabin in the Woods director, writer and overall genre genius Drew Goddard has been hired to save the World War Z movie adaptation, but is he too late?
Last we heard, director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) was driving this picture straight into the ground. Which sucks because this book would have been perfect as an oral history documentary, but instead they decided to thread Brad Pitt's character through the entire thing. Sure, OK, fine, there are worse actors than Pitt, but one could argue this project was kind of damaged from the get go. Moving on, pair the wobbly script with a soaring budget and the "headless production" rumors and you've got a big undead disaster. But that all could end right now; Deadline is reporting that Goddard has been hired to come in and finish out the ending the Damon Lindelof dreamt up (in an earlier pitch to save the flick). So that's the good news.
The bad news is, Goddard (being the new hotness on the Hollywood block) might not have enough time to clean up this mess. And Deadline is hearing that Tom Cruise's screenwriter and Jack Reacher scribe Christopher McQuarrie is potentially next in line. Our two cents? Just give it entirely to Goddard, all of it. Start over and make it like Band Of Brothers on HBO. Ken Burns can be a producer.
