Robert Downey Jr. has bought the rights to "The Entire History of You," one of the episodes from the first season of Black Mirror. It's a pitch-dark tale of a future where people record their memories into brain implants, and can replay them for friends on their computers, mobiles, or whatever. The story centers on how a jealous husband forces his wife to replay her memories of an affair she's had, and delves deeply into the ways we use technology for personal acts of psychological torment.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the film will be at all like the series.
According to The Guardian:
The proposed film version, which is being put together at studio Warner Bros via Downey Jr's Team Downey production company, appears to be slightly different. Set in the near future, it will centre on a widower who uses similar technology to reconstruct his relationship with his dead wife until he unwittingly uncovers a vast conspiracy. Armstrong, whose film work includes 2009's Oscar-nominated In the Loop (with Armando Iannucci, Simon Blackwell and Tony Roche) and the 2010 terrorism satire Four Lions (with Chris Morris), will also write the screenplay.Sounds like a pretty typical conspiracy flick, with a small nod to the technology the characters used in "The Entire History of You."
